Halloween may get all the hullaballoo when it comes to the only O month of year, but for wine lovers, the big treat of the season comes in the form of Come Over October.
Come Over October is the month-long, national wine discovery movement launched by wine educator and journalist Karen McNeil, wine PR firm founder and owner Gino Colangelo of Colangelo & Partners and wine marketing maven Kimberly Charles as an effort to counterbalance the growing disconnect between wine producers and consumers, and find ways to bridge the gap and make wine more of an everyday option instead of a special-occasion choice.
Long Island Wine Country, the region’s not-for-profit trade and consumer marketing organization, is once again throwing some juice behind the effort, which is culminating in a day of wine-centric wellness and discovery.
On Sunday, Oct. 25 LIWC is hosting the 4th Annual Race for the Greenway 5K run and walk, the proceeds of which will go to benefit both Harvest East End, who will be once again contributing their funds raised to CAST’s youth programming efforts, as well the ambitious Long Island Greenway project, a span of walking, jogging and biking trails that will run from Manhattan to Montauk and all points in between, connecting 90 communities along the 200-mile planned greenway, with an ultimate goal of connecting to the 750-mile Empire State Trail.
But the day doesn’t end with the race. After the run, a wine country crawl will be in effect all day, kicking off at the post-race awards shindig at RG/NY. Multiple wineries on the Long Island Wine Trail have signed up to offer special deals all day long to both race participants and curious sippers in their tasting rooms, encouraging both visitors and locals to stick around, come over for their latest releases, deals on bottle purchases, tastings and more. Offerings include:

Also, all runners and walkers will be able to fuel their pre- or post-5K effort with a 15% discount off of any of the delicious offerings at Black Sheep Bagels in both Cutchogue and Jamesport (present your race bib to nab this deal!).
“We are really excited to team up with Come Over October for this year’s Race for the Greenway,” said LIWC executive director Beth Santosuosso in a statement to the press. “Events like this are what makes Long Island Wine Country so special — it brings together our beautiful, open spaces, our vineyards and our community.”
