First Fridays on Love Lane is a locavore’s dream come true.

With more than 15 local vendors selling mostly food and beverages, it’s not difficult to spend the entire evening eating and drinking your way down the street.

While you can definitely make a night out of that, at this month’s First Friday I challenged myself to consume only a handful of items forcing me to be strategic in my choices.

For more than a decade, Jackie Wilsberg has been the warm, familiar face behind the counter at Love Lane Sweet Shoppe in Mattituck. Wilsberg and her husband, Bill, purchased the business in January 2009 with the goal of keeping the longstanding candy and gift shop as charming as it’s been since opening in the 1980s.

Lifelong Mattituck residents, the Wilsbergs often visited Love Lane Sweet Shoppe, which had moved around a couple locations on the street before settling in its current 11,000-square-foot space in 1996. They brought their two daughters to shop for sweet treats and Beanie Babies, developing a relationship with the store’s previous owners throughout the years. (more…)

On Monday mornings, passionate crafters gather at Altman’s Needlearts on Love Lane. Their ages range from nine to 80-something with skill sets just as varied. They come together to create crafts of all kinds — knitting, crocheting, needlework — nothing is off the table, aside from any talk of politics or religion, which is strictly prohibited. (more…)
