Feeling thirsty? Then head on over to Peconic Bay Winery in Cutchogue on Oct. 5 from 1 to 5 p.m. for the second annual Pour the Core, a hard cider festival featuring more than 30 brands of crisp, refreshing brews made from fermented apples.

Long Island purveyors like Woodside Orchards, Wölffer Estate Vineyard and Standard Cider Company will all be represented at the event along national brands like Woodchuck Hard Cider, Ace Premium Hard Ciders and Harpoon Cider. Festival goers will also get to sample “True Believer,” Peconic Bay Winery’s sparkling apple cider. Click here for a full list of vendors.

If you get hungry, Maple Tree BBQ Gourmet Caterers will have soups, salads, wraps, sandwiches and non-alcoholic beverages for sale. Beer from companies like Long Ireland Beer CompanyBlue Point Brewing Company and Southampton Publick House will also be available.

Hard cider has enjoyed popularity in America since colonial times, when adults and even children regularly drank it instead of water, which was thought to be unclean and potentially dangerous to consume. Today, hard cider is more popular than ever, enjoying a steady fan-base in all parts of the country; indeed, any part of the world where apples are made.

Advance tickets for Pour the Core are on sale now at and cost $40 plus tax. Tickets purchased the day of the festival — if available — will cost $65 plus tax. Admission for designated drivers is $10 plus tax. Each attendee will receive a 5 oz. souvenir tasting glass with a 2 oz. pour line (not valid for guests with ‘designated driver’ tickets).  No one under the age of 21, included designated drivers, will be allowed entrance into the festival.
