Each week, we will be spotlighting a different farm stand on the North Fork as more open up. Breitenbach Farms is open Wednesday through Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with hopes to extend the hours as the summer days arrive. The farm also has same-day delivery available to the Town of Riverhead.

Name: Breitenbach Farms

History: The Breitenbachs were potato farmers for generations before tough times forced the farm into liquidation in the mid-1980s. Now, Emil and Kyle Breitenbach have opened the doors to Breitenbach’s farm stand, picking up where their family left off about 35 years ago in a space previously used by the Wells family.

What they are offering: Local asparagus, rhubarb, raw honey, duck and chicken eggs. Homemade fruit pies, 14 flavors of jams, salad dressing, BBQ sauce, and pickles.

What they will offer: Eggplant, broccoli, beefsteak and heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers, green and yellow zucchini, basil, lettuce, red and candy onions, potatoes, spinach, watermelon, sunflowers, pumpkins, plus their own zucchini blossoms and local strawberries, sugar snap peas, and sweet corn.
