It’s that time of year again.
The harvest is long gone, we can barely remember who we celebrated Thanksgiving with and the Christmas lights are begging to come down — if they haven’t already.
On the North Fork that also means we’ve finally hit the slow season. So what should you do on your weekends out here?
Each week, Northforker staffers Michelina Da Fonte and Grant Parpan will be sharing their ideas for events to check out or reoccurring happenings that you should have your eye on to have a great new year on the North Fork through this new Friday morning podcast
This week they had their eye on:
• Hitting the Riverhead Indoor Farmers Market on a Saturday morning is a great way to stock up for the week ahead with fresh local goods. It’s open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 54 East Main Street (for folks farther east check out the Greenport Farmers Market on Saturdays and Sundays).
• If you want to venture to the other fork, Boating Times Long Island hosts regular guided seal walks at Cupsogue Beach County Park in Westhampton. This weekend, they’re getting together at 11 a.m. Saturday.
• We realized a little after recording this podcast that the Resolution Solution Beer + Yoga event we recommended at Moustache Brewing Co. is sold out, but be sure to check out Moustache’s fun activities, including an upcoming Falconry talk from Northforker outdoors columnist Chris Paparo.
• Looking for a weeknight pick? Grace + Grit brought back its Thursday burger nights, which are now happening at North Fork Taps & Corks in Southold each week from 5 to 9 p.m. These burgers are worth checking out.

• Congratulations to Brent Pelton at American Beech for being named our Northforker Person of the Year. We’ll be honoring him at our annual reception in March, but in the meantime you can read up on all the great things he’s doing.
• Speaking of awards, Fred and Karen Lee of Sang Lee Farms were named the Organic Farming Association of New York’s farmers of the year. What a well-deserved honor for a family whose business continues to amaze us.
