Kick off Memorial Day Weekend the way that the unofficial start to summer is meant to be spent — outside enjoying grilled creations, fresh seafood and refreshing sips.

North Fork Table & Inn’s (57225 Main Road, Southold, 631-765-0177) food truck will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 22 serving Chef John Fraser’s beloved Big Grin Smashburger, topped with a beefsteak tomato, patriot pickles, tallow onions, American cheese and a special sauce, or the herb-packed lobster roll made hot or cold, among an assortment of other summery menu items.

In 2020, Fraser took over the casual high-quality food service from previous owner, Claudia Fleming.

“We continued this concept as an opportunity to create a more approachable, fast-casual experience while still delivering the same level of quality and hospitality guests expect from our restaurants,” says Fraser.

The opening of the food truck launched Fraser and his East End team’s start at the restaurant. The open-air option wound up being a hit and has kept customers coming back for the last five summers.

One notable change this year is the addition of Saturday bake sales, starting later this summer from 11 a.m. on. North Fork Table & Inn pastry chef Sofia Schielben made harvest sticky buns for the food truck last year and will be expanding the pastry list due to the positive reaction.

“We think there’s something special about guests being able to wake up on a Saturday morning and choose from a selection of fresh pastries,” says Fraser. “It feels like a fun weekend ritual for both locals and visitors to look forward to.”

He is currently testing some egg sandwich recipes to add a savory flavor to the Saturday morning special.

Since Fraser’s takeover, the food menu has evolved, this year featuring more barbecued items as the current rig has a smoker.

While the burger and lobster roll remain stars of the show, the food truck also serves a Seared Dimple Dog: a hot dog topped with crispy onion, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and relish; a big bacon burger with two patties, bourbon glazed onion, American cheese and black pepper bacon; an Impossible burger garnished with Greenport Harbor Ale-braised onion, beefsteak tomato, patriot pickles, Big Grin sauce and yellow mustard and a grilled chicken sandwich featuring basil pesto, beefsteak tomatoes, Swiss cheese and patriot pickles.

Stay on the lookout for fun specials weekly, based on what’s fresh from the local waters or farms.

There’s always the option to add on fries, bacon, duck fat waffle hash browns or melty jalapeño chili cheddar cheese or order a kid’s meal or one of the delicious desserts, including a fresh baked cookie or house Italian ice.

As for drinks — meant to be enjoyed in the outdoor beer garden — choose from a list of Greenport beers, cocktails like the frosé and a classic margarita, or European glasses of wine, plus soft drinks and water.
