House proud
Called “Big E Farm,” this estate started out as a potato farm, was purchased in the 1970s and transformed into a thoroughbred raising facility for Robert Entenmann, who, over time, added outbuildings and, eventually, a manor home for his own use. If that name sounds familiar, it’s with good reason: an Entenmann’s baked product was the mainstay of many a home.
“Entenmann’s was always a part of people’s home and a part of entertaining,” says Sheri Winter Parker, the Corcoran agent listing the property. “The brand is somewhat revered – they were in everyone’s home.”
The house was built in 1993, and the floor plan encompasses Entenmann’s interests, including a commercial kitchen and plenty of space for entertaining.

What’s the plan?
The house is entered via a porte cochere, opening into a foyer with a curved staircase, which, in turn, leads to a reception area and a 30-foot-long gallery hallway. The foyer wing includes two bedrooms, one of which is ensuite with a walk-in closet. The hallway is flanked by the 540-square-foot living room and a handsome, wood-paneled den of almost equal proportions, each with a fireplace and Brazilian cherry wood floors throughout. The hallway leads to the kitchen and dining wing, where a 400-square-foot dining room enjoys a privileged spot in the round turret, with windows all around. The living room offers access to a 30 x 14 veranda. A two-sided fireplace separates the dining room from the kitchen.
Three bedrooms comprise the second level, with the primary suite occupying the turret. The suite includes a large dressing room, an oversized bathroom with soaking tub, a second bathroom with a steam shower, a walk-in closet and two other smaller closets, and a balcony. The two guest rooms are ensuite. There is a laundry room on this level.

What’s cooking?
To say this is a chef’s kitchen is an understatement. Anchored by a center island, the eat-in kitchen features a 7 x 10 breakfast room in a rounded, windowed alcove; numerous commercial-grade appliances (Traulsen, Wolf) in multiples; and the custom-tiled side of the two-sided fireplace. Adjacent is a dedicated commercial kitchen with a pizza oven and pantry.
What else?
The lower level is packed with amenities: a 576-square-foot entertainment room, a wine cellar, 468-square-foot gym, a pool room, spa and sauna. There is an additional laundry room on this level, and an elevator that goes to the second floor.

One cool thing
Entenmann planted 18 acres of vitis vinifera vines, founding Martha Clara Vineyards in Riverhead, named for his mother.
Agent’s callout
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a part of local American history and it has its own cache,” Parker says. “It’s a very rare offering, especially one with history.”
Location, location, location
The farm is almost equidistance between Long Island Sound and Great Peconic Bay, offering ample opportunity to access waterfront. Iron Pier Beach is 2.1 miles to the north and Veteran’s Beach is 3.3 to the southeast.
“You’re in an expansive landscape in the farm belt stretch, but close to downtown Riverhead and Jamesport,” Parker says. South Jamesport is 4.2 miles away and Riverhead, with numerous attractions and recreation is 7.5 miles from the home.
