The Halyard Restaurant is the North Fork’s newest spot for seaside brunch

THE GIST: Since its opening at the Sound View in 2017, The Halyard has been celebrated for its locally sourced seafood, classic American fare and sweeping sunset views overlooking the Long Island Sound. The high-end hotel-restaurant debuted its first-ever brunch menu earlier this year, offering its own spin on late-morning staples while staying true to its commitment to highlighting local flavors and coastal charm.

THE VIBE: Large windows flood the airy main dining room with natural light and captivating sea views. Tall, vaulted white ceilings, scattered palm and nautical touches — from paintings of sailboats to the rope backing of the dining room chairs — pay homage to the coastal setting. Outside, a seasonal deck with about a dozen tables hangs over the water’s edge.

THE FOOD: The Halyard’s dedication to culinary excellence shines through in its contemporary dishes, crafted with local ingredients whenever feasible from farms such as KK’s The Farm, Oysterponds Shellfish and Deep Roots Farm. Its brunch menu is a continuation of this mission, showcasing a mix of sea-inspired starters — including oysters and smoked salmon avocado toast alongside savory and sweet brunch mains.

Stuffed French Toast: A luxurious twist on a breakfast favorite, this dish features thick-cut brioche, delicately dusted with powdered sugar and filled with warm Halyard spiced rum and bananas Foster filling. It’s served with a side of maple syrup and extra bananas Foster filling — because you’ll be wanting more.

Eggs Benedict: This simple brunch classic consists of two poached eggs carefully placed atop maple glazed ham and English muffins, paired with a mini pitcher of bright and buttery hollandaise to drizzle over your eggs to your liking. Add in some smoked salmon for elevated, sea-inspired flavor.

House Made Cinnamon Bun: With its rich cinnamon filling and melt-in-your-mouth frosting, this ooey-gooey house-made cinnamon bun — served warm, straight from a cast iron pan — is the ultimate cozy morning pick-me-up.

Croque Madame: Halyard’s take on the Parisian café staple. Savory ham and melty fontina cheese are layered between two pieces of fluffy, thick-cut toast, bathed in a rich and creamy Sauce Mornay, and crowned with a perfectly runny, sunny side up egg.

Halyard Brunch Burger: The best of breakfast and lunch come together in this delectable sandwich. Sink your teeth into a juicy beef patty topped with sweet caramelized onions, crunchy local lettuce, crispy candied bacon, creamy fontina cheese, zesty avocado mash and, of course, a fried egg.
