There’s a new — but familiar — lunch spot opening in Southold.
Biggie’s Lunch (43715 County Road 48, Southold), the new dine-in venture at The Catered Fork, will bring an afternoon hang-out spot back to Southold Village beginning this Thursday, Jan. 25.
Owner Steve Ammirati describes Biggie’s as “a casual place to get a good lunch and have a nice cold beer.”
Last year, Ammirati purchased the Southold property located off County Road 48 to serve as a brick-and-mortar location for his catering business The Catered Fork. Along with his full-time catering business, Ammirati’s original concept for the location was to permanently host his “Duck Yeah” food truck on the property for people to stop by and dine outside.
“The concept just didn’t catch on, so I had to shift course,” says Ammirati. “Everything will be inside now. I’ve had a full bar inside since we opened so we’re [going to offer] an all-day happy hour along with lunch.”
The menu will feature a collection of lunch items, cocktails and several local wines and beers on tap. Some of the eats on offer include chicken/bacon/ranch or mushroom truffle quesadillas, seared tuna and avocado or Caesar salads, sweet chili duck wings or one of several specialty sandwiches with truffle fries on the side, to name a few.
And locals — especially those who grew up with Ammirati — will recognize the restaurant’s name. “It’s how most people in town know me,” he said. “I have it tattooed on my arm.”
Before The Catered Fork moved in, the building was home to popular breakfast and lunch spot Erik’s from 2006-2022. While Ammirati hopes Biggie’s Lunch creates its own lunchtime legacy amongst locals and visitors, he made sure to pay homage to those who came before The Catered Fork.
“I found signs from when [the space] used to be North Fork Food, as well as the old Erik’s sign — which I hung inside this space,” says Ammirati. “[Former owner Erik Brown] was here for a long time and was beloved by everybody. I hope to continue that.”
