There’s no shortage of picturesque views at Indian Island County Park in Riverhead. (Credit: Tara Smith)

At Indian Island County Park in Riverhead, you can hike, camp, picnic and kayak where the North and South forks meet and the Peconic River opens into Flanders Bay.

It’s a picturesque spot where you can explore what was once the ‘island,’ a remote area now connected to the mainland by a sandy causeway.

Native American artifacts and a burial ground have been uncovered at the 275-acre site, which was also used for a large duck farm operation in the 1900s.
