It may have been a mild winter, but that no way dulls the anticipation of spring. The warmer weather is returning and so are North Fork businesses. Here are a handful of signs that spring has arrived with the planned opening of some of your favorite places.
A Lure Restaurant Chowder House & Oysteria is open for the season. The popular waterfront restaurant is back with its seafood-forward menu of clams on the half shell, chowder and lobster. There are several weekly specials including half price apps at the bar on Fridays, no corking fees on all local wines on Sundays, and a three-course prix fixe menu on Thursdays and Sundays.

Schmitt’s Family Farm in Riverhead starts its spring hours Monday, April 1. The farm stand best known for its horseradish launches its spring hours come the first day in April. The stand is open Mondays and Wednesday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is open 7 days a week for summer starting July 4.

Briermere Farms will open on Friday, April 5. The beloved North Fork pie-maker and farm stand is reopening in early April, selling its famous baked goods, jams, jellies and syrups. Call ahead to place your Easter pie orders.

Brew Crew Cycles is resuming its tours on Saturday, April 6. The 14-person bike allows you and a few friends to drink and pedal your way to Riverhead’s breweries. There are a handful of tour options to choose from.

The Tap Room at Corey Creek will re-open on Saturday, April 6. The popular tasting spot in Southold will be open on Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m. The Southold tasting room serves flights and glasses of sustainable, small batch wine. The Tap Room is reopening full-time in June.

Hallock’s Cider Mill will open on Friday, April 12. Homemade pies, cookies, jams, chowder return mid-April. When you visit, be sure to check out the gnome tree next door. The shop is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Garden of Eve is reopening on Friday, April 12. There is free admission to the newly expanded, family-friendly fun fields during opening weekend at the organic Riverhead farm and market. Visit the farm animals and get a free garden consultation to help you start your own herb and vegetable garden on Saturday, April 13 and Sunday, April 14.

Sister seafood restaurants PORT and SALT reopen Thursday, April 18. Lovers of lobster rolls, chowder and baked clams can get their fill when PORT Waterfont Bar & Grill in Greenport and its Shelter Island counterpart SALT Waterfront Bar & Grill return mid-month.

Andrews Family Farm is returning for the season on Thursday, April 18. The Wading River farm stand will be stocked with fresh pansies, lilies, tulips, daffodils, hyacinth, hydrangea, local honey and eggs. For the holiday weekend, Andrews is open Thursday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Easter Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Porto Bello Restaurant in Greenport opens for the season on Thursday, April 18. Just in time for the Easter holiday, the eatery will serve dinner on Thursdays from 4 to 9 p.m.; on Fridays and Saturdays from 4 to 10 p.m.; and from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sundays. Happy hour is from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. Summer hours begin Memorial Day weekend.

Modern Snack Bar will open Tuesday, April 23. The Aquebogue restaurant, famous for its roast Long Island duck, lobster salad and lemon merengue pie (not to mention its iconic vintage sign), is back for its 69th season.

Harbes Family Farm is returning on Mother’s Day weekend. Harbes is kicking off its 2019 season with a Mother’s Day Festival weekend on Saturday, May 11 and Sunday, May 12 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Barnyard Adventure will be open for the kids and mom can enjoy a glass of the vineyard’s award-winning wine.

Bayview Market And Farms opens on Saturday, April 20. Visit the Aquebogue farm stand between 8 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Lewin Farms is returning on Memorial Day weekend. Get your fill of fresh fruits and vegetables with pick-your-own options available throughout the season. The stand is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting Saturday, May 25.

Sylvester Manor kicks off its summer schedule on Thursday, June 27. Along with the Shelter Island farm’s just-picked produce and bouquets, the stand features products from local vendors such as Goodale Farms, Wickham’s Fruit Farm and Browder’s Birds. It’s open Wednesday through Monday (closed Tuesdays) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from June 27 through September 3, with more limited hours in the fall.
