The Sound View in Greenport will serve as a cozy respite from a cold weekend as creative minds gather for music, noshes, libations and thought-provoking conversation.
The Greenport hotel and its restaurant, The Halyard, have teamed up with Meet The Creatives, a podcast that invites industry leaders and newcomers to reflect on issues impacting the creative arts in all mediums, for a three-day event featuring live podcasts, question and answer sessions and hotel deals.
The event kicked off Friday evening and it’s continuing through Sunday. Guests are invited for cocktails, à la carte dinning options and artist discussions that include such topics as exploring the boundaries of design and typography.
Designer Juan Carlos Pagan, perhaps most famous for designing the Pinterest logo, spoke about exploring the boundaries of design and typography with host and Meet the Creatives founder Rob Johnston during the first podcast of the weekend on Friday. The podcast has previously featured creative minds from companies like Google, Facebook, Nike and Airbnb.
“I wanted to bridge the gap between new artists and people who have been in the industry for years,” Johnston said before the podcast. “It’s great to host in an intimate setting like Sound View.”
The collaboration is part of Sound View’s effort to position itself as a hub of culture on the North Fork, offering culinary, art, music and wellness programs throughout the year. Erik Warner, co-founder of the hotel investment firm Eagle Point Hotel Partners, which purchased the property in 2016, will be featured in the final discussion on Sunday, entitled “How Creative Vision Starts with a Passion for Location and Community.”
“Places like Sound View have unlimited creative capacity,” said Warner, who will be speaking about the business’ relationship to the arts and the community during the podcast. “When I purchased the property we wanted it to be a reflection of the North Fork and the arts is an intrinsic component.”
Sound View is also rolling out new “creative” discounted rates on midweek retreats. The $75 per night rate is available Sunday through Thursday until March 31 using code FNFM. Reservations can be made online.
