The weather may be stuck in February mode, but spring is very much in sight on both the North Fork and Shelter Island as restaurants and shops continue to reopen for the season.
Modern Snack Bar in Aquebogue will reopen its doors on Tuesday, April 12.
Since 1950 this North Fork landmark has been a well known spot for its delicious home cooking. This year will be its 66th in business.
Restaurant hours will be 11 a.m to 9 p.m. (Tuesday thru Thursday), 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. (Friday and Saturday), and noon to 9 p.m. (Sunday). The restaurant will be closed on Mondays.

Blue Canoe Oyster Bar & Grill in Greenport will reopen on Thursday, April 21.
After taking a break this winter for some refurbishing and refinishing work, Blue Canoe will be back later this month serving up summer favorites, plus some new menu additions.
Restaurant hours will be 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, noon to 10 p.m. on Friday & Saturday, noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday & Monday. They will be closed Tuesday & Wednesday.
Blue Canoe Oyster Bar & Grill is located at 103 Third Street in Greenport.
Sweet Tomato’s Italian Restaurant will reopen on Shelter Island on Friday, April 15.
This Island eatery is beloved for its rustic pizzas, delicious pastas and prix-fixe weekend brunch.
Sweet Tomato’s is located at 15 Grand Avenue, Shelter Island Heights.
The Vine Street Café Market on Shelter Island will reopen on Thursday, April 14.
Along with their prize-winning mushroom Bolognese sauce, other VSC specialty sauces include their heirloom tomato sauce, chunky tomato sauce and steak sauce. Also coming back will be their smoked ribs, meatballs and salmon burgers. New items this season will include their very own lasagna and hors d’oeuvres.
The Vine Street Café Market will be open 11:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. They will be closed on Fridays.
