Chilly temps make the conditions just right for ice skating. So, bust out those ice skates and throw on some gloves because this weekend we recommend hitting the rinks in Riverhead or Greenport.
WHERE: The Stotzky Park ice rink in Riverhead (map it)
HOURS:
Friday: 3 to 9 p.m.*
Saturday: 1 to 10 p.m.
Sunday: 1 to 9 p.m.
*Due to uneven ice, the Stotzky Park Ice Rink had to be surfaced Friday morning. On Friday, Jan. 24 the rink open at 6 p.m., according to the Town of Riverhead’s Parks & Recreation Department.
WHY WE LIKE IT:
There aren’t too many things left in this world you can enjoy for free, but skating at Stotzky Park is one of them. The 60-by-100 foot ice rink opened last year and is a great place to bring the kids on chilly days. Just remember there are no rentals so don’t forget to bring your own skates.
WHERE: Greenport ice rink at Mitchell Park (map it)
HOURS:
Friday: 3 to 5 p.m.
Saturday: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
*Due to the fact that the ice rink is outside, it is directly affected by weather conditions. Hours of operation may be changed without prior notice due to ice conditions.
ADMISSION:
On weekends and holidays adults pay $10, while children under 18 and seniors pay $7. You can rent a pair of skates for $10, but all customers must leave a deposit in the form of a driver’s license, student ID, credit card or cash. The village accepts Mastercard and Visa credit cards.
