The locally-renowned band, the Golden Fists of Fury, is back at Claudio’s this Friday, July 5. Their last reunion gig was a full three years ago, so this night of musical fun has been a long time coming and is sure to be one to remember.
The Golden Fists of Fury is a six-piece band that defines its musical style as a unique combination of funk, reggae and hip-hop. The band is native to the North Fork, as it got its start during a series of jam sessions in local bars and restaurants.
Lead vocalist Brian Burkhardt is a Greenport native now living in Miami who actually won the “Project Runway” spinoff show “Project Accessory” on the Lifetime channel last year. Burkhardt brings the entertainment with crazy dance moves and rapping skills, though at his day job he is actually a jewelry designer.
Other band members include trumpeter Louis DeVirgilio, trombonist Jerry Ryan, Greenport native drummer Jamie Schott who was a member of another local rock band Big Suga, guitarist Tom “Shecky” Davis, and bassist Ted (Big Tasty) Schreiber.
A list of songs that the band plays is just as unique as the combination of instruments that the band consists of. They perform funk music by Sly Stone and James Brown, classic reggae by Bob Marley, and a variety of hip-hop, ska, and dancehall tunes.
The Golden Fists of Fury have performed all over the New York and Metropolitan area with internationally known artists like Steel Pulse, Yellowman, Robert Randolph and have opened for The Wailers twice.
Be at Claudio’s Clam Bar (111 Main Street in Greenport) at 10 p.m. on Friday to witness this rare reunion that is definitely going to be a huge hit!
