The Village Cheese Shop owner Michael Affatato announced Wednesday he no longer has plans to open a new location in Greenport.

Affatato, who owns The Village Cheese Shop on Love Lane in Mattituck, said in an email the reasoning behind his decision was timing. In March, Affatato said he planned to open a second location at 19 Front Street in Greenport.

First Fridays are back!

On the first Friday of each month from May through October, the merchants of Love Lane and Pike Street in Mattituck invite everyone to stroll, taste, sip and shop during the First Fridays block party event. Now in its third year, the first event is set for Friday, May 5

And this year, all-day deals are extended to other businesses in the hamlet and beyond. (more…)

It was a dairy lover’s dream at The Village Cheese Shop in Mattituck Saturday, when the store’s wine bar and café hosted a PawPaw pop-up dinner.

“Valentine’s Day was the perfect opportunity to have everyone sit down and eat a bunch of cheese,” said PawPaw creator and chef Taylor Knapp.

Saturday’s event marked the first time Knapp hosted dinner at the Love Lane shop; he said he and owner Michael Affatato began discussing the idea about a year ago. Knapp, who also owns Peconic Escargot, typically holds pop-up dinners at Bruce & Son in Greenport, which is being renovated. (more…)

Get ready to stroll along Love Lane and Pike Street in Mattituck this Saturday to enjoy local food, crafts and raffles at the 39th annual “Old Fashioned Street Fair” hosted by the Mattituck Chamber of Commerce.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and includes the crowning of Little Mr. and Miss Mattituck — a beloved community tradition.

“We’re very fortunate that it’s so successful and taken on a life of it’s own,” chamber president Terry McShane said. “Our goal is to get the ‘Made in China’ stuff out and get more local artists, artisans and craftspeople in.”
