Get those stir fry pans ready, sugar snap peas are coming into season on the North Fork.
The late spring veggie is on select farmstands now, but should be all around within the next week or so.
“Right now, these are coming from the greenhouse,” Sang Lee Farms greenhouse manager Lucy Senesac said of the peas for sale at the Peconic organic farm. “That allows us to have a little bit longer of a pea period. We should have the ones grown outside soon.”
Sang Lee grows about a quarter of an acre of snap peas, including the indoor and outdoor plants.
“They were a little bit late this year, but as soon as it did get warm, they speeded up exponentially,” Senesac said.
Sang Lee also has some baby squash on the farmstand this week.
“You can just throw these on the grill. They are a little more tender (than the full grown variety),” she said.
