A longtime Greenport hotel has a new name and look.

Oyster Estate officially opened Sept. 1 at 326 Front St., completing a roughly year-long transformation of the former Greenporter Hotel. Blue Flag Capital purchased the property in late 2022 and continued operating it as the Greenporter while planning its next chapter.

The original hotel was built in the late 1950s and renovated and reopened in 2000. The property eventually grew to 34 guest rooms, a number that remains unchanged under the new ownership.

The renovation focused less on structural changes than on creating a new identity throughout the property.

“We just wanted to really re-envision the experience that we provide here,” says Eric Freitas Orford, managing director, New York, for Faraway Hotels and Collared Martin Hospitality. “Naming it Oyster Estate was really paying tribute to the North Fork region and Greenport, which obviously has so much of a maritime community. Really focusing on that was important for us.”

The former lobby, once defined largely by white walls and a simpler look, was redone with warmer beige tones, wood finishes and textured ceilings. ISLYN Studio handled the interior design, while Workshop/ADP worked on the architectural side. The redesign extends through the guest rooms and common areas, with natural materials and a warm, woodsy feel intended to make the hotel comfortable beyond the summer season.

Most accommodations are king rooms, along with four rooms with two queen beds and two larger suites. One suite at the front of the building connects through an interior door to an adjoining room, allowing the accommodations to function as a two-bedroom setup for families or groups. Each room includes a minibar stocked with a variety of drinks and snacks.

The courtyard pool and patio were also reimagined, giving it a Palm Springs vibe and serving as a central gathering point for the property.

The hotel’s next phase arrives later this month with Fortune Favors, an Asian-fusion food-and-beverage concept slated to open Sept. 30. Culinary director Jarad McCarroll is developing the menu.

“We felt like [Asian-fusion] was something that’s not here, and the market doesn’t currently have, and at least not the vibe that we want to be able to execute as,” says Orford. “So, we’re really excited to bring that.”

The space is designed to be a social destination with a fireplace, DJ booth and entertainment. Food and beverage service will also extend to the pool deck. Reservations will be available on Resy, while walk-ins will be welcomed.

The operators also hope to build partnerships with area wineries and other local businesses, connecting guests with the broader region.

The property plans to remain open through most of the year and close only for the month of January.
