A single step inside Panoramica (2745 Peconic Lane, Peconic, 631-765-8354) is sure to pique customer curiosity thanks to the coffee and candy shop’s undeniable charm.
As a recent recipient of the Long Island Association‘s L.O.C.A.L. (Lifting Our Community Businesses Across Long Island) small business grant for $5,000, the exterior of the retro-future-style shop will be getting a tune up in the coming weeks, says owner Travis Zurawski.
The grant — awarded in partnership with Optimum Business — is given to 40 businesses across Long Island: 20 in Suffolk County and 20 in Nassau County.
Zurawski completed an online application with a series of questions about the business and what he and his team would use the grant money for and a video submission related to their goals; they then underwent an interview process to decide finalists.
“The core use of the grant will be for a hand-painted sign modeled after one that was on the building in the 1940s,” says Zurawski. “I didn’t need any time to think about where the funds [were] headed. Our exterior is our weakness and needs some TLC.”
In its third year, the grant program has awarded $500,000 to 90 Long Island businesses with the intention of investing in the Island’s future. Long Island Association is celebrating its 100th anniversary advocating for businesses by fostering connections and supporting affordability, diversity, equity, inclusion, innovation and infrastructure, energy and environmental improvements.
