Rent or BYOB (that's bring your own bicycle) and see the East End from two wheels. (Photo Credit: Doug Young)

Reading Charity Robey’s Pedal to the Meadow, a story on cycling routes in Southold, Orient and on Shelter Island, is almost like taking a short vacation. Robey outlines three routes recommended by bike tour operators, complete with suggestions of where to rent a bike. The routes hit some of the area’s most beautiful vistas (I’m looking at you, Narrow River Road) with fun places for pit stops, like the Horton Point Lighthouse and One Woman Wines & Vineyard in Southold. And, I appreciate her insistence on stopping at the Orient Country Store for sandwiches and pie, “which you richly deserve.” What a pleasurable article to read and to plan a cycling tour with.
