Tchotchke (noun): a small object that is decorative rather than strictly functional

Whether it’s a beautiful, Christmas-themed wreath or a hand poured candle, a handmade item from a local artisan, there’s something special about finding a beautiful gift at a holiday market. The North Fork has special events throughout November and December for you to find the perfect tchotchke for your loved one.

East End Holiday Farmers Market | Twin Forks Beer Company, 807 Raynor Ave., Riverhead
When: Saturdays through Dec. 28, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
The festivities: Around 35 vendors will be on-hand each Saturday through the holidays showcasing their food, produce and handcrafted products. The tasting room will also be open.

Holiday Makers Market | Greenport Harbor Brewing, 42155 Main Road, Peconic
When: Nov. 30, noon–5 p.m.
The festivities: The Barrel Room will be filled with the works of artists, creators and local vendors.

Hallockville Country Parlor | 6038 Sound Avenue, Riverhead
When: Nov. 29–Dec. 1, Dec. 6–8
The festivities: This year, the market will take place in the Hudson-Sydlowksi House on the homestead and includes handcrafted gifts, artwork and décor created by local artisans, including pottery, baskets, tree ornaments, quilted, knit, and woven apparel, paintings and home decor.

St. Nicholas Craft Fair and Cookie Walk | St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 26 St. Mary’s Road, Shelter Island
When: Dec. 7, 9 a.m.–3 p.m.
The festivities: For $10, fill a tin with cookies made and donated by the community, then peruse the market for local, handcrafted gifts. Feeling chilly? Buy one of several soups! 16 oz. soup for $7.

Southold Historical Museum Holiday Fair | Southold Town Recreation Center, 970 Peconic Lane, Peconic
When: Dec. 7, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.
The festivities: Local artisans and vendors will sell their wares. While you’re browsing, take a look at the gift basket auction, enjoy the bake sale and meet Santa and his missus from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. Admission is free.

Holiday Fair | Bedell Cellars, 36225 Main Road, Cutchogue
When: Dec. 7, 1–7 p.m.
The festivities: This market includes art prints, jewelry, pottery, foraged crafts, paintings, calligraphy, and clothing, skin care and home goods. MJT the Band performs.

Holiday Market | Jamesport Farm Brewery, 5873 Sound Ave., Riverhead
When: Dec. 14, noon–4 p.m.
The festivities: Local vendors will showcase their unique wares during this all-ages market, which will also include a visit from Santa. While the kiddos get their picture taken with ol’ Saint Nick, peruse the market with a craft brew in hand.

When: Dec. 14, noon–6 p.m.
The festivities: Vendors include The North Fork Art Collective, Times Vintage, Treiber Farms, Tulsi Square and many more. Live music will be performed from 3-6 p.m. and Santa may even make an appearance.
