There’s a bounty of events to choose from if you’re looking to celebrate Halloween this year — for all age groups and all levels of scare. For the kids, there’s trick-or-treating, creepy corn mazes, and a spooky Greenport Express mini-railroad ride, just to name a few.

Join one of the many Halloween parties happening for adults only, complete with costume contests and prizes. And find lots of unique events on tap, like a sunset tour of the Old House in Cutchogue followed by an author talk about local witches, line dancing at the American Legion, a doggie costume parade, and both kid-friendly and edgier spooky film showings. Pick your poison and enjoy All Hallows Eve!

HISTORICAL HORROR

On Friday Oct. 25, from 4:30-6:30 p.m., creep yourself out with a sunset tour of the Old House on the Cutchogue Village Green, followed by a book signing/talk by Scott R. Ferrara, author of “Accused of Witchcraft in New York,” which will take place in the Cutchogue-New Suffolk Free Library. Free; for more information, click here.

TRICK OR TREAT

On Friday Oct. 25, visit the Cutchogue East PTA’s 4th Annual Trunk or Treat, co-sponsored by the Mattituck Lion’s Club, at the Cutchogue East Elementary School parking lot. This fun event for the little ones runs from 5-7 p.m. and is free (please bring a non-perishable food item to donate if possible). Two other Trunk or Treat event will be held as well. The first, on Saturday, Oct. 26, will be at the True Light Church (1850 Main Bayview Road, Southold) from 1-4 p.m.; free, with food and Halloween-themed games for the kids. Find more info here.

The other is on Shelter Island, whose annual “Trunk or Treat” runs from 4 to 6 p.m. on October 31 at the parking lot next to the public tennis courts on Duvall Street will be back again for the best sugar-centric kids’ tailgate in town!). Island kids can also head to Smith Street for the annual car-free candy-crush, where the community pools efforts to create a safe and fun trick-or-treating experience for all. The day concludes at 4 p.m. the Center Firehouse for hot dogs and other refreshments (so your kid isn’t just full of Snickers bars and Skittles).

The Annual Orient Village Halloween Trick or Treat happens on Saturday Oct. 26 from 5-7 p.m. Wear your costume and be ready to trick or treat! Village Lane will be closed to vehicle traffic; park on Oysterponds Lane, Skippers Lane, Orchard Street, at the Fire House or at Oysterponds School. Greenport’s 5th Annual Greenport Halloween Village Parade happens on Saturday, Oct. 26. Paraders may line up at the Floyd Memorial Library at 10:30 a.m.; parade steps off at 11 a.m. From noon to 3 p.m., kids can trick or treat at Greenport Village businesses. The Southold Rotary Club sponsors the Spooky Greenport Express mini-railroad rides at Moores Woods from noon to 5 p.m., while Floyd Memorial Library hosts story time for kids at the Blue Duck Bakery courtyard at 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Find the full list of events here.

FAMILY FUN

Local ghouls and goblins will be around on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 26 and 27, at the Haunted Attractions at Krupski Farms (38030 Main Road, Peconic) from noon-5 p.m. Make your way through a haunted corn maze and a haunted barn, then enjoy a hayride at this popular, spooky spot. At the Haunted Hollow in Baiting Hollow (1774 Sound Ave., Calverton), the Boy Scouts host a haunted trail and scary house walk on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 26 and 27, from 7–11 p.m. Tickets are $20; the event is aimed at older kids and younger kids that don’t mind a spook or two. Get tickets here.

Peconic Dunes Camp (6375 Soundview Ave., Southold) holds the Halloween Howl Toddler Program on Saturday at 10-11 a.m. Children ages 1-5 will make potions, paint pumpkins and have fun with themed sensory bins. Tickets are $20; for more info click here.

On Saturday, Oct. 26, visit the Long Island Aquarium (431 E Main St., Riverhead) from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. for the Bats, Barnacles & Broomsticks Halloween Party. All costumed kids will get 50% off admission with a paying adult; party is free with aquarium admission. There’s lots of sweets and treats, giveaways, and crafts to experience. The American Legion (102 3rd St., Greenport) hosts a Spooktacular Halloween Line Dance Party with Lady T on Sunday, Oct. 27, from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Costume contests and prizes are on tap; tickets are $22 in advance, $25 at the door; kids $5. For more details click here.

Also on Sunday, Oct. 27, take in the Howl-O-Ween Pet Costume Parade at Greenport Harbor Brewing Company (42155 Main Road, Peconic), with cute pets wearing their Halloween best and lots of prizes. Registration begins at noon; parade starts at 1 p.m. Click here for more info.

HALLOWEEN PARTIES FOR ADULTS

Party with adult ghouls and monsters at several locations around town. On Friday, Oct. 25, Jamesport Farm Brewery’s (5873 Sound Ave., Riverhead) Halloween Party happens from 7-10 p.m. Tickets are $25, which includes your first beer. Enjoy a dog costume contest, spooky vendors and a live DJ. Get tickets here.

On Saturday, Oct. 26, the Tavern at the Chequit’s (23 Grand Ave., Shelter Island Heights) Halloween Costume Party runs from 8 p.m.–12 a.m. Enjoy live music by Johnny Numonic, specialty cocktails and happy hour prices. Details can be found here.

The Greenport Harbor Brewing Company Halloween party happens on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 7-11 p.m.; no entry fee. Dance the night away with DJ Henry; there are costume contests and plenty of food and drink as well. More info here.

Also on Saturday, Oct. 26, the Sound View (58775 County Road 48, Greenport) Halloween Party at the Halyard Restaurant happens from 9 p.m.-12 a.m.; tickets are $15 and include a late-night snack bar and one complimentary cocktail or drink. Plenty of dancing and a costume competition, too. Get tickets here.

On Sunday, Oct. 27, the Greenport American Legion’s Spooktacular Halloween Costume Party continues for adults only from 6-10 p.m., $25 per person, with music, dancing and costume contests. Get tickets here.

On Halloween night, Thursday, Oct. 31, head to Shelter Island’s Isola (15 Grand Ave., Shelter Island Heights) for a costume and karaoke party from 8:30–11:30 p.m. $65 bracelet to enter costume party (first prize: $200, includes all-you-can-drink draft beers and house wines, a dance-the-night-away DJ set.

CREEPY CINEMA

After the Halloween parade on Saturday in Greenport, the North Fork Arts Center’s Sapan Theater (211 Front St.) will be screening the family film Hotel Transylvania at 4 p.m; tickets are $12. More info can be found here.

The Suffolk (118 E Main St., Riverhead) hosts a film series with both kid-friendly and adult-only movies to get you in a morbid mood.

On Saturday, Oct. 26, there’s a double showing of the ultimate Halloween freak show, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, with shows at 8 p.m. and at midnight (doors open one hour before each show). Tickets are $35 without prop bag, $45 with prop bag. No outside props or food will be admitted. It’s a packed evening with specialty cocktails, a themed menu, a costume contest before the show, and the Zen Productions shadow cast, with performers acting out the movie in front of the screen. On Sunday, Oct. 27, watch the family-friendly “Halloweentown,” featuring a girl who learns she is a witch on her 13th birthday. Screening is at 5 p.m.; tickets are $15 and kid-friendly food and drink menus are available. Click here to buy tickets.

Decidedly not for young children, catch a scary showing of the classic 1978 film Halloween on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 and can be found here.
