Owner Andrew Rowsom describes Preston’s Chandlery (102 Main St., Greenport, 631-477-1990) as the “last little morsel of old Greenport.” For almost 145 years, Preston’s has remained a mainstay in the historic seaport, starting in 1880 servicing the neighboring shipyard and the various vessels that passed through Greenport harbor. S.T. Preston & Son Ship’s Chandlery became the one-stop supply shop for whalers, Navy ships, even luxury yachts owned by the Vanderbilt family and J-boats that competed for—and won—the America’s Cup.

Today, it is one of Greenport’s longest-run family-owned businesses, now operated by Andrew and his brother, Peter.

The store not only continues to cater to boaters, but others who love the seaside life. Anyone who finds themselves inside Preston’s at Greenport’s wharf will leave nautically obsessed.
