Some of my favorite pieces to write are those that focus on a budding business, especially one that’s a bit out of the ordinary or off the beaten path.

Thinking back to April, when I was still on my journey to discover and learn more about the North Fork, I was a bit taken aback by Café Victoria, a coffee shop that opened in Tanger Outlets in Riverhead the summer prior. While an outlet mall may not be the first place to come to mind for opening a small coffee shop, Café Victoria proves to be successful.

Opening this café was a lifelong dream for Alexander Escobar, who works with his partner/girlfriend Monserrat Ruiz. His Latin American roots and appreciation for coffee culture appear in every detail of the shop, from the modern sleek decor to the rainforest wall to the delicious coffee.

Their journey to open Café Victoria is a lot like their coffee, rich and complex. Read the story here.
