While ice cream often takes center stage on the North Fork, there’s also an impressive gelato scene here filled with creamy classics and innovative creations. We’ve rounded up the gelato spots that you won’t want to miss this summer:
Opties and Dinghies | Orient
A visit to this seasonal cafe is a summer tradition for many across the North Fork. Owners Vincent Bertault and Claudia Lin are known for serving up an eclectic menu of Chinese dumplings, French crepes, and decadent imported gelato and sorbets.
Opties and Dinghies is located at 1010 Village Ln in Orient.
Southold General | Southold
This elevated cafe in Einstein Square features a gelato station with rotating flavors ranging from classics like chocolate and vanilla to Italian specialties like tiramisu and stracciatella.
Southold General is located at 54180 Main Rd in Southold.
Lombardi’s Love Lane Market | Mattituck
This Italian marketplace is a true slice of Italy on the North Fork, complete with a homemade pizza bar, a deli counter serving custom-made sandwiches, and — of course — a gelato station.
Lombardi’s Love Lane Market is located at 170 Love Ln in Mattituck.
The Treatery | Jamesport
The popular bakeshop offers a rotating display of homemade gelato, with favorites like ricotta fig and the Stella Special. As part of The Treatery’s newest venture, Owner Christina Padrazo and Ursula XVII of Disset Chocolate have partnered to launch a line of gelato bars. We’d recommend the Stella — a heavenly combination of raspberry, blueberry and peach gelato, sandwiched between two mouthwatering funfetti cookies from The Treatery.
The Treatery is located at 1564 Main Rd in Jamesport.
Hellenic Snack Bar | East Marion
While Hellenic Snack Bar is a popular destination for Greek staples like taramasalata, hummus, and stuffed grape leaves, visitors would be missing out if they didn’t save room for its rich homemade gelato, prepared the old fashion way.
Hellenic Snack Bar is located at 5145 Main Rd in East Marion.
D’Latte | Greenport
Though all the sweet treats at D’Latte Café are noteworthy, the gelato is a standout. Go with the pistachio for a nutty yet smooth “d’light.”
D’Latte in Greenport is located at 218 Main St in Greenport.
