Catch the last summer street festival
The last Alive on 25 summer street festival for the season will be held on Friday, Aug. 11. Make your way to Main Street in downtown Riverhead for live music, local food, craft beverages and fun for the whole family. Savor the dog days of summer
Celebrate the dog days of summer at the New Suffolk Waterfront Fund’s annual Summer Soirée. Spend the evening enjoying spectacular water views as you indulge in local wines, hors d’oeuvres, oysters and live music. Eat and drink your way across the North Fork
Eat and drink like a local at the annual northforker Wine & Food Classic. Hosted by Times Review Media Group, the second annual event will showcase over 40 farm-to-table restaurants, vineyards, breweries and more. This year’s Classic will be held at Borghese Vineyard on Thursday, Aug. 31 from 6 to 10 p.m., and tickets start at $85 plus taxes and fees. To purchase, visit this website.
Sip wine and linger around the firepit
The perfect endcap to August includes sipping wine, live music, and a fire pit. On Friday, Aug. 26, you can do just that with RGNY’s Vino y Fuego bonfire series. Tickets include two glasses of wine and a voucher for the food truck of the evening. Live music and lawn games will be available for the whole family to enjoy. The fire begins burning at 6 p.m., tickets are $60 per adult and $40 for children and non-drinkers. Book now online.
Sail back in time
Climb aboard a 17th-century Swedish merchant ship and get the chance to sail it yourself. From Wednesday, Aug. 2 through Sunday, Aug. 13, Kalmar Nyckel makes her return to Greenport Harbor. Learn the history of the vessel with free deck tours on Saturday, Aug. 5 and 12 and go for day and evening sails around Gardner’s Bay at select times throughout the week. Grab your floaties for some fun in the sun
On Sunday, Aug. 6 head to Strong’s Marine for the Peconic Bay Raft Up Party. Spend the afternoon with your friends floating at the cove off of Robin’s Island. The raft party will run from noon to 5 p.m. and is free to participate. Check here for updates.
Polka and pierogi return to Riverhead
After a three-year hiatus, the Polish Festival returns to Riverhead on Saturday, Aug. 19. Head to the Riverhead Polish Hall to munch on $20 Polish platters, featuring delicious kielbasa, pierogi and more as you dance to traditional live Polka music and shop local artisan vendors. The festival starts at 11 a.m. with free day admission and lasts until midnight. Night admission with a cash bar begins at 6 p.m., tickets are $20 for adults and teens and children 12 years and younger are $10, and 5 and under are free. Find more information here.
Spend your August in nature
Throughout August, Group for the East End will offer multiple nature-inspired workshops. Tie-dye bags with blueberries, create Native American zoomorphic pinch pots and learn how to paint with air during this month-long series. Multiple volunteer opportunities will also be available throughout the month, including the chance to aid in beach clean-ups and native plant installations. Support small businesses
On Sunday, Aug. 6 from noon to 5 p.m., head to the Jamesport Farm Brewery to discover unique treasures, sample delicious treats and support small local businesses. Have a ball at the Annual Beach Ball Summer Soirée
Mark your calendars for Saturday, Aug. 26 at 5 p.m. Enjoy a night of live music, poolside dancing and delicious food and drinks at the Soundview in Greenport. The Annual Beach Ball Summer Soirée benefits CAST, with a portion of all ticket sales going towards the non-profit organization and more donations are encouraged throughout the night.
