Food trucks are undoubtedly a good time. Typically parked at a location offering a touch more — live music, killer views, craft drinks, and cool vibes — these moveable restaurants offer up an excellent way to sample local food in a fuss-free way.
And when we say “sample” we truly mean it by often ordering the entire menu (That’s how you’re supposed to do it, right?). If you haven’t tried some of these local food trucks, we present to you a food truck itinerary: a spot to try for every day of the week.
MONDAY
Duck Yeah! at the Catered Fork
This new food truck, Duck yeah!, is making mouths waddle with its flavorful, duck-centric dishes made from original Long Island breed Pekin ducks, from sweet chili duck wings to duck confit quesadillas. Not a fan of poultry? The food truck also offers tasty seasonal salads and sandwiches like strawberry cobb salad and a fresh hummus wrap. It’s open Thursday through Monday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located at 43715 Country Road in Southold.
TUESDAY
Meats Meats BBQ at Townsend Manor Inn
Head to Greenport for Townsend Manor Inn’s Townsend Tuesdays. There, you’ll nosh on BBQ and comfort food by Meats Meats, listen to live music by various North Fork artists and sip your beverage of choice from the snack bar. Although their menu changes, you can expect choices like pulled pork, sliced brisket, pulled chicken, bacon and jalapeño mac and cheese and more. Townsend Tuesday occurs every Tuesday, 6 to 9 p.m., from June 27 until August 29.
WEDNESDAY
Shuck Truck Happy Hour at The Shoals
Every Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m., Little Ram Oyster’s Shuck Truck opens at The Shoals for a happy hour that’s equal parts delicious and laid back. Come as you are and snag a dockside picnic table. Order oysters, caviar, peel-n-eat shrimp, clams, clam dip by Clamity Janes, chips and more. Local beer and wine are also available for purchase. The weekly happy hour event is set to continue through August 30.
THURSDAY
Twilight Thursdays at Corey Creek Tap Room with various food trucks
From 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursdays throughout the summer, Corey Creek Tap Room hosts a night of live music and food trucks to help get you through the final push of the week. The rotating list of food vendors include Nice Buns Food Truck, Balos Foods Truck, Brockenzo Pizza and North Sea Tavern. To learn more about each week’s lineup, visit coreycreektaproom.com.
FRIDAY
Burger Night at McCall Wines
Hosted at the vineyard itself, this dining experience should be on your radar. In addition to making some of the North Fork’s best wine, the McCall family also raises Charolais cows for beef and it’s been said that their burgers are some of the tastiest on the Fork. Burger Night is offered Thursday and Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Reservations are recommended.
SATURDAY
North Fork Table & Inn Food Truck
Open Saturday through Sunday from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. the North Fork Table & Inn Food Truck at the gardens at North Fork Table & Inn is serving some serious eats. The menu is substantial and includes salads, burgers, sandwiches, snacks and sides plus a children’s menu, too. The smoke heritage pork sandwich with bourbon mustard BBQ and pickled cabbage is a favorite, though our top pick is the lobster roll made with confit fennel, celery salt, and chives. No matter what you order, you can’t go wrong.
SUNDAY
The Catered Fork at Jamesport Farm Brewery
The Catered Fork food truck is our Sunday pick. We love the wide range of food you can order from it. From Mediterranean wraps and chipotle chicken and cheese quesadillas to fresh roast beef hoagies, there’s something for everyone. Don’t forget to order the truffle parm fries and wash it all down with a beer or cider from the brewery. The food truck is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 to 5 p.m.
