Ghosts and goblins lined Griffing Avenue Saturday to cheer on one of the newest traditions in Riverhead: coffin races.

The Halloween Festival, hosted by the Riverhead Business Improvement District, featured a full day of spooky fun. The “Privet Police” team from Privet’s Consignment on Main Street emerged victorious in the coffin race. Turnout was limited with only three adult teams and one kid team entering the race, but the event still drew a big crowd.

Mark MK McLaughlin of East End Arts served as emcee of the event.

After the coffin races, kids in costumes got to trick or treat on Main Street before a goblin parade.
