Let’s face it: increasing prices have made eating on a budget more of a priority than ever before. Known for an extensive high-end dining and winery scene, the North Fork can be a difficult place to find “cheap eats” if you don’t know where to look. That’s why we’ve curated a list of our favorite places to get a meal that’s delicious and affordable. Here are 10 North Fork lunches for $10 or less (excluding tax).

1. Classic Grilled Cheese at Wednesday’s Table, $5.95

Wednesday’s Table offers a Classic Grilled Cheese that’s simply delicious. Creamy American and cheddar cheese oozes between two slices of a hearty bread of your choice — country white or whole wheat.

2. Spanakopita at Agora Greek Market, $6.00 per square

Tucked away off Love Lane, this little market is well-known for its authentic Greek cuisine. At $6 a slice, their Spanakopita — a flaky spinach and cheese pie — is a great option for those looking for something savory for lunch.

3. Bang Bang Cauliflower Tacos at Mattitaco, $8.00 for 2

Crispy Thai-styled Cauliflower is paired with mango salsa and lime aioli, served on a flour tortilla. These tacos are vegetarian-friendly and surprisingly filling, so it doesn’t take many to have a satisfying meal.

4. Broccoli Cheddar Soup at Barrow Food House, $8.00

A local favorite, Barrow Food House is a fast casual restaurant, making it the ideal spot for a quick meal. Warm and comforting, this broccoli cheddar soup is a budget-friendly must for the cold days ahead.

5. Balsamic Grilled Chicken Wrap at Hampton Coffee Co., $8.00

While the Hamptons chain is known for their hand-roasted coffee, it also serves a variety of wraps and sandwiches. At $8, this soft flour wrap is served chilled and features balsamic grilled chicken with tomatoes, baby spinach, and basil pesto.

6. Dumplings at Opties & Dinghies, 4 for $8.50

The freshly made dumplings at Opties & Dinghies in Orient come with beef, shrimp, chicken or veggie and can be boiled or pan-fried. These are great on their own or with some noodles and bao for an additional cost.

7. Cheeseburger at Country Corner Cafe in Southold, $9.50

Founded in 1997, this neighborhood luncheonette and ice cream parlor is one of the few places left where you can find a cheeseburger for under $10 on the North Fork. These 1/2-pound burgers are cooked to order and made with fresh, lean beef. Choose between American, Swiss, mozzarella, or cheddar cheese.

8. Mad Dog Burrito at Funchos, $9.95 

This hefty burrito is likely the most filling option on this list. Rice, black or refried beans, cheese, lettuce, and chipotle BBQ is wrapped into a large flour tortilla to create a flavorful and satisfying combo. While meat can be added for an additional cost, this tasty burrito can stand on its own.

9. Veggie Chili at North Fork Roasting Co., $10.00

This local coffee joint offers veggie & bean chili with a flavorful kick. The spicy, homemade chili is served with bread and topped with cheddar cheese, avocado and cilantro.

10. Panini Combo at Erik’s in Southold, $10.95

A Southold staple, Erik’s has been serving breakfast and lunch since 2006. For lunch, the family-owned restaurant offers a panini combo — a 1/2 panini with a cup of soup or side salad. Coming in at slightly above $10, this deal is worth the extra coin.
