Hellenic Snack Bar & Restaurant, which has been serving up flavorful Greek cuisine since 1976 in East Marion, is still going strong.

Owner George Giannaris recently raised $17,730 for Ukraine and donated it to Rotary International’s Disaster Relief Fund.

As part of we our ongoing “most popular series” we asked him what his customers order the most.

Here are the top five menu items at Hellenic Snack Bar & Restaurant, starting with a simple, somewhat surprising, but very tasty beverage.

Lemonade

“It’s hand-squeezed, every order,” said Giannaris. “One at a time.” For a boozy version, try the dangerade, which includes raspberry-infused vodka.

Gyro

The gyro — open faced or as a platter over rice — is hugely popular with customers. “When you really wanna get juice running down your elbow, as a sandwich, it’s great,” said Giannaris.

Whole fish

“I’ve had James Beard Award-winning chefs tell me they will only eat fish here,” said Giannaris. Hellenic broils it to make sure the outside is crisp and the center is moist, with a lemon olive oil dressing Hellenic has served since 1976.

Gelato

Hellenic makes all-natural gelato from scratch. Some of the popular flavors include Belgian chocolate, bourbon vanilla and Hellenic Baklava, which contains homemade baklava.

American Wagyu Corned Beef Hash

Breakfast is offered Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday. “We go through hundreds of pounds of that,” Giannaris said.

Bonus pick

The falafel, made from scratch, is also very popular, but doesn’t quite crack the top five.
