The Lady Brewsters are brewing up something good for a cause.

A collaboration of seven breweries across the North Fork, the Lady Brewsters come from the management, sales, marketing, hospitality or production teams of Eastern Front Brewing Co., Greenport Harbor Brewing Co., Jamesport Farm Brewery, Long Ireland Beer Co., Moustache Brewing Co., North Fork Brewing Co. and übergeek Brewing Co.

The beer, named Lunar Ascent, is an IPA brewed with hibiscus tea and ginger. One dollar from every pint sold will be donated to the Family Service League of Suffolk County, a non-profit organization with numerous programs that help benefit women in the local area. All the money donated will go directly to those programs. The breweries will also be hosting events throughout March, such as yoga, self defense classes and food tastings, where the proceeds will also go to the Family Service League.

The beer is also brewed with moonstone and black obsidian, and is hopped with North Fork Brewing’s Nugget hops from its farm and other citrus and floral hops.

“We wanted to come together and collaborate, highlighting the dynamic, creative women in this industry. It’s a male-dominated field, but we are all strong women who appreciate craft beer, who want to have an impact, empower one another and support our community,” said Michelle Demetillo, North Fork Brewing Co.’s hospitality and community manager. “And whether you believe in the healing properties of tea, plants, or crystals, we wanted to brew a beer inspired by their holistic benefits for an important cause.”

Sheila Malone of Long Ireland Beer Co. came up with the name Lunar Ascent. “It being lunar represents women in general, and the ascent part pertains to us as a group of women taking roles and excelling in predominantly male environments like brewing,” she said.

Lunar Ascent will be available throughout the month of March at all participating breweries, but a kickoff party will be held at Digger’s Ales N’ Eats in Riverhead from 6 to 9 p.m. on March 4. For any additional information head to ladybrewsters.com.
