It’s part art exhibit and part call to action.
A new show focused on building a community committed to protecting our marine environment is coming to the East End.
Sea Something, Save Something will open at Castello di Borghese Vineyard in Cutchogue on Saturday, April 29. A reception will be held from 6 to 9 p.m.
The exhibition brings together artists who are committed to preserving our waterways and will function as a pop-up art show, rotating to different venues. With an emphasis on collaboration, Sea Something, Save Something will benefit different environmental protection, research and advocacy groups.
“This event brings together two amazing artist communities from the North and South Fork,” said artist and event organizer Kara Hoblin. “As artists, we have a very special gift that can provide a visual guide to raise awareness and bring forth action in defense of our beloved planet.”
Proceeds from the first installation of the show will benefit Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Marine Program.
During the opening celebration guests will have an opportunity to view and purchase artwork inspired by the marine environment. Additionally, scientific professionals and educators from Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Marine Program will be on hand to provide more information about what they do.
“This is an excellent opportunity for us to increase awareness about the many initiatives we are leading in efforts to enhance our local shellfish populations, increase marine and coastal habitat, and encourage stewardship of our marine resources,” said Kimberly Barbour, marine program outreach manager at Cornell Cooperative Extension.
All art pieces will be for sale with a 50/50 split of the proceeds between the artist and the CCE Marine Program.
The show will feature the following Long Island artists: Scott Bluedorn, Madison Fender, Dalton Portella, Randee Post Daddona, Cindy Pease Roe, Peter Spacek, Idoline Duke, Dan Welden, Michele Dragonetti, Sarah Prescott, Kelly Franké, Estefany Molina, Kara Hoblin, Emma Ballou, Candace Ceslow, Jon Schusteritsch, Jeremy Garretson, Pete Treiber, Rossa Cole, Tom Dash, and Chris Hamilton.
During the kickoff party, guests can enjoy wine from Castello di Borghese, food donated by various local establishments and a special gift bag for anyone who purchases a piece of artwork or signs up for CCE’s Back to the Bays Membership Program.
Food will be provided by Love Lane Kitchen, Lombardi’s Love Lane Market and noah’s.
Julia King will provide live music.
Artwork will remain on display from April 29 through June 1, 2017.
