Take a look at the Long Island Aquarium’s newest addition and say “awwwwwwww.”

Meet the adorable Slydell. The otter ambassador just arrived in Riverhead as a swap with the EcoTarium Museum in Worcester, Mass. The Long Island Aquarium’s adult male otter, Stark, is currently visiting the Massachusetts museum.

“We are slowly working on introducing Slydell to Jelly, our female. Currently, we have them separated with one of them in the holding areas inside while the other one is on the exhibit,”said Long Island Aquarium spokesperson Darlene Puntillo. “They can see, smell, hear and touch each other through a fence in one of the inside holding areas.”

Slydell is currently getting acquainted with his new friend and brand-new environment. They will take turns going on exhibit during this introductory time as they get more familiar with one another.

Slydell was born in February 2007 in Slydell, La., and was hand-raised by the EcoTarium staff, according to the museum’s website.

Watch Slydell explore his new home on your next visit to the Long Island Aquarium and Exhibition Center, which is located at 431 East Main Street in Riverhead. For more information, call (631) 208-9200 x426 or visit longislandaquarium.com.
