Step it up for mama this Mother’s Day by skipping run-of-the-mill roses and opting for a unique arrangement. North Fork florists and growers recommend vibrant, colorful plants that can be transferred outside and enjoyed all summer long.
Here are five different options local experts recommend:
“They are absolutely stunning,” said Mattituck Florist owner Danielle Lascala. “They come in one long stem with several blooms. You can get it in a variety of colors. You just need a little bit of greens and a nice, simple vase and that’s it. It will speak volumes.”
“Knowing mom’s favorite color is the most important thing,” said Clarke’s Garden owner Peter Clarke. “Geraniums are in full bloom right now and they come in every color. They are really, really everyone’s favorite.”
“What we do a lot for Mother’s Day is flowering plant baskets,” said Blooms by Design owner Julie Hanus. “We will put six to ten annuals out in a container and people can just pick what they like. Our goal is for you to plan it in a container on your deck so it will bloom all summer long, but when you get it, it looks like an arrangement.”
“Mandevilla is well received and requires little car,” said Adele Doscher of Homeside Florist in Riverhead. “It’s tropical, bright and gives you profuse blooms throughout the summer months.”
“They are just a very colorful and cheery,” said Terry Morton of Riverhead Flower Shop. “They can be planted outside and they comes back every year. They come in blues and pinks and other vibrant colors. It’s very, very pretty.”
