BARBARAELLEN KOCH PHOTO | Riverhead BID president Ray Pickersgill (from left), Holly Browder of Browder’s Birds in Mattituck, Riverhead Community Development Agency director Chris Kempner and BID board member John Mantzopoulos get a tour of the farmers market Friday morning.

The new Riverhead Farmers Market will debut this Saturday in a building in downtown Riverhead.

The indoor market is being co-sponsored by Riverhead Town and the Riverhead Business Improvement District and will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays, running through May 17. The market will be located at 117 East Main St., the building formerly used as a furniture store by Swezey’s.

On Saturday, chef Lia Fallon of The Riverhead Project will be at the market’s Chef’s Table providing instruction and education to shoppers, Larrin Gerard will provide live music and 26 East End growers or producers — ranging from bakers to brewers to yogurt makers and others — will have stands there, according to the Riverhead Farmers Market Facebook site.

BID president Ray Pickersgill said the number of growers and producers who have expressed interest in participating is greater than the amount of space available.
