Every week we at northforker sample the paninis, sandwiches, soups and salads of our regions for our column “What’s for Lunch?”
When looking back on all the yummy North Fork lunches we enjoyed this year, it’s hard to pick our favorites.
But the following eateries are the kind that make you rush back to the office and tell everyone “you just have to try the crab salad sando from Blue Canoe.” You’ll notice we favored seafood dishes, but then again, this is a region with a storied maritime history.
So here they are, our six favorite NoFo lunches of 2014.

6. Blue Canoe, Crab salad sando
Blue Canoe is more of a place you go to treat yourself than an everyday lunch spot. You will notice that this item is the highest priced lunch we featured all year. Still, this sandwich was so good I can’t wait for the weather to get nice again and enjoy one on the back deck overlooking Greenport Harbor.

5. Porto Bello, Lobster BLT
Has there ever been a more heavenly pairing than lobster and bacon? The best part of the lobster BLT is the generous chunks of lobster. Porto Bello is closed for the season, but go there and order this sandwich when they open in April.

4. Farm Country Kitchen, Maria panini
Perhaps the East End’s best “hidden gem,” lunch at Farm Country Kitchen is always a solid option. If you can find it (and a parking spot) that is.

3. Erik’s Breakfast and Lunch, Veggie Burger
This is not your run-of-the-mill, dried out veggie patty. The sweet potato burger is moist and filling, and the sweet french fry dipping sauce is just so darn good. I love just about everything Erik’s has to offer and this lunch item is no exception.

2. Southold Fish Market, Scallop bacon ranch quesadilla
I don’t know exactly whose idea it was to put scallops on a quesadilla, but I’d like to shake their hand.
You’d be hard pressed to find someone on the North Fork who doesn’t love Southold Fish Market. Not only do they serve great lunch, but it’s a good option for a low-cost dinner out.

1. Love Lane Kitchen, Fish Tacos
Love Lane Kitchen is so good that we visited them twice this year. Hands down my favorite lunch spot on the North Fork. The great atmosphere and great coffee are also a plus.
