Now the popular food truck is setting up shop with a brick and mortar location in Mattituck. The new eatery will be called MattiTaco.
The 16-seat restaurant with a clam shack-style “grab and go” menu is expected to have a soft opening in mid-May at the former Crazy Fork on Main Road in Mattituck
Prior to the official launch owner Justin Schwartz — chef Noah Schwartz’s older brother, who has been operating Noah’s on the Road since it launched in 2015 — is hosting pop-ups at the new location.
The first is this afternoon, Tuesday, Feb. 27 from noon to 5 p.m.
“Chef Noah is expanding so much with his projects — as executive chef of the Suffolk Theater and with his catering business — the food trucks are expanding as well and we just needed more space,” said Justin Schwartz, who signed the lease at the 800-square-foot building last week.
Tuesday’s offerings included a bacon lobster taco and the Machaca taco featuring Barbacoa paired quail eggs sourced from Feisty Acres Farm in Riverhead. Noah’s on Road’s signature dirty fries and pretzel crusted cheese curds also made the menu.
Expect a constantly evolving, fun menu chock full of locally sourced ingredients.
“A lot of people are willing to try different tacos other than ground beef or chicken,” said cook Austin Douglas of Aquebogue. “We’re able to put items like a cheeseburger taco on the menu.”
The pop-up tacos will be served often out of the Noah’s on the Road truck until renovations are complete. The dates are dependant on the weather.
The interior renovations are planned to begin this week.
“It has been something we’ve wanted for a while, but finding the location was important,” said Douglas, noting that the restaurant’s centrally located position between Riverhead and Southold. “We wanted to get it right the first time.”
Schwartz said he would continue to operate both Noah’s on the Road 1964 Airstream food trucks.
