Update: The event has been postponed to October 9 due to the weather forecast

Peconic Landing will throw its fifth annual end of summer celebration and fireworks show on Sunday, Sept. 4 in Greenport.

The event is free to all and usually attracts more than 700 people each year. Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket and chairs for the evening’s festivities. The 20 minute fireworks display, which is sponsored by the Greenport retirement community, will begin at 8:15 p.m.

“This event is our way of saying thank you to the North Fork community for its support throughout the year,” said Robert J. Syron, president and CEO of Peconic Landing. “Bring your families, bring your loved ones and join us for what is always an incredible fireworks show.”

Along with the fireworks, guests can also enjoy a live performance by the Atlantic Wind Symphony, which features musicians from across Long Island. They will perform musical numbers by artists like George Gershwin, John Philip Sousa, as well as many popular Broadway hits.

That performance, which is sponsored by the Brecknock Hall Foundation, will take place out on the patio of Brecknock Hall at 7 p.m. The foundation’s mission is to preserve and maintain the historic mansion.

The event is also a salute to veterans and current service members. Peconic Landing plans to recognize local police, ambulance and volunteer fire department members as well.

A rain date is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m.

Peconic Landing is located at 1500 Brecknock Road in Greenport. For more information visit PeconicLanding.com.
