A pair of Long Island wineries cracked a list of the ‘101 Best Wineries in America,’ as published last week by the national food blog The Daily Meal.

Among the list of wineries was the Shinn Estate Vineyard in Mattituck, which was ranked 74th, and Channing Daughters Winery in Bridgehampton, coming in at 86.

The Daily Meal described Shinn Estate owners Barbara Shinn and David Page as “pioneers of biodynamic viticulture” on the North Fork. The article also praises the couple for their passion “about their wine and their environment, and [they] give their time to help educate others about their philosophies.”

The blog called Shinn Estate wines “elegant and well-structured, and consistently some of Long Island’s best.”

The vineyard produces sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, pinot noir and cabernet franc varieties, as well as a petit verdot the blog called “outstanding.”

“It’s always nice to get a complement like that,” Ms. Shinn said. “We were also rated last year, this is our second year in a row and we’ve moved up in the ratings.”

Channing Daughters is one of the few U.S. producers of tocai friulano, a white wine grape that is widely planted in Chile, the blog noted, describing the Channing Daughters version as “bone-dry, lively, and intensely aromatic.”

The winery’s sauvignon blanc, chardonnay and petit verdot were also praised as being “very good and straightforward.”
