Scavenger hunts, animal encounters and kitchen chemistry. These are just a few low-cost, family-friendly programs offered at Downs Farm Preserve in Cutchogue all summer long.

Starting Saturday with Family Nature Bingo, Group for the East End is hosting a series of kid-friendly educational classes, games and other activities several times a week throughout the summer.  Most programs are  free or nearly free, however, small donations — typically in the $5 to $8 range —  are suggested.

Family Nature Bingo starts at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 12. Get your kids ready to play numerous rounds of the classic game while learning a bit about some common Long Island wildlife.

Other happenings to look forward to are day beach trips and barbecues.
