Has anyone else noticed that over the past couple years braised short rib is suddenly popping up on a lot of menus? It’s easily one of the seven best things to happen to my taste buds this millennium.

But while short rib is being served for dinner — or as a special — at a lot of places on the North Fork and beyond these days, it’s not just anywhere you can find it on the lunch menu.

Wednesday’s Table in Southold is bucking that trend, though, with its braised short rib sandwich. The tender beef is topped with red cabbage — another underutilized lunchtime ingredient – and horseradish sauce on a ciabatta roll.

At $10.95 it’s the most expensive lunch option on the menu, but it’s also the tastiest and most unique.

Wednesday’s Table is located on Main Road in Southold at the former Piping Plover. It’s open Thursday through Tuesday — yeah, not Wednesday — from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
