Each year, The Garden Conservancy’s Open Days program gives the public a rare opportunity to step inside the most beautiful designed landscapes on the North Fork. The stops on these self-guided tours are at the private homes of master gardeners who encourage guests to wander the grounds and ask questions to inspire their own plantings. (more…)

The most magnificent gardens on the North Fork are extensions of the green-thumbed homeowners who curate them. The precise plantings are a result of constant editing and weeding — taking years, not months, to perfect.

Get a rare look at four of the North Fork’s loveliest private gardens — including  the garden of Denis Schrader and Bill Smith, a northforker favorite — during the Garden Conservancy’s Open Days tour on Saturday, July 8.

The Garden Conservancy, which works to preserve beautiful gardens for public enjoyment, is hosting an “open day” on Long Island when gardens in Cutchogue, Mattituck and Jamesport will open their doors to visitors. (more…)

The Garden Conservancy Open Days

Several years ago, Arnold and Karen Blair purchased a wooded lot adjacent to their Cutchogue home looking to ensure the peace and privacy on their waterfront property.

Today, it’s home to a sloping, meandering trail enhanced by lush perennials planted under towering oak trees.

“Once we had it, we said, ‘well, what are we going to do with it,'” Mr. Blair recalled. “Now it’s like a little park.” (more…)
