Think this isn’t a great time to visit the North Fork with little ones in tow? In reality, the lack of crowds, fun cold-weather activities and this season’s above-average temperatures make the region a perfect place to spend a winter weekend day with the fam.

Most of the farm stands are closed and the vines aren’t looking as pretty, but there are still many family-friendly ways to have a North Fork outing.

The way the East End is portrayed on television almost always bothers me.

Hollywood producers, many of whom have undoubtedly spent some time out here in the summer months— but not enough — are apt to over-simplify its people.

As Alison Lockhart, the female protagonist in Showtime’s new Montauk-set drama “The Affair” tells character Noah Solloway, portrayed by Dominic West:

North Fork Google Satellite

I still remember that strange feeling I had the first time I ever saw my childhood home on Google Earth. How did they do that? A UFO?

Then Google rolled out the street view featured on it’s maps. To this day, it’s the single biggest motivating factor for me mowing my lawn and not getting the newspaper in Tony Soprano morningwear.

Now Google has something even cooler for us to waste time with, a timeline that allows you to scroll through Google Earth and Street View images as they were captured over the years.  (more…)
