Saturday, Oct. 13, 5-6:30 p.m.: ‘Serenade Under the Stars’ at Custer Observatory, 1115 Main Bayview Road, Southold. Flutist Michelle LaPorte and guitarist Gerry Saulter perform contemporary works by composers  from Brazil, Argentina and Spain, such as classics by Heitor Villa-Lobos and Enrique Granados, original arrangements of works by Astor Piazzolla and more. Saturday, Aug. 18, 7-10 p.m.: Steven Leonard Messina and Thad Debrock of Blow Up Hollywood concert at Custer Observatory, 1115 Main Bayview Road, Southold. Final concert in  “Steinway & Stargazing” summer concert series to benefit the Custer Observatory Music Project. Concert, wine, hors d’oeuvres, reception and stargazing at nightfall. $75 in advance; $95 at the door. custerobservatory.org.

Saturday, Aug. 11, 7 p.m.: Perseid meteor shower presentation and observation at Custer Observatory, 1115 Main Bayview Rd., Southold. Bob Farrell will speak about hero and constellation Perseus and telescopes will be open to view the night sky before the meteor shower. Gather to watch the meteor shower on the south lawn. Bring lawn chairs, blanket, bug spray and snacks. Suggested donation: $5 adults; $3 children under 12. 631-765-2626, custerobservatory.org.

Custer Institute invites astronomy fans to unite at their 35th Annual Astronomy Jamboree this Friday, October 25 through Sunday, October 27. Different events will take place each day as well as a celebratory dinner at Digger’s on Saturday. (more…)

The cosmos will be putting on quite a show in the night skies this weekend, and there are plenty of seats in the house.

The Perseid Meteor Shower is a prolific meteor shower that is visible around mid-July each year, with the peak activity this year between August 9 and 14. Sunday night after midnight into Monday morning will provide the most action. (more…)
