Saturday, Aug. 11, 7 p.m.: Perseid meteor shower presentation and observation at Custer Observatory, 1115 Main Bayview Rd., Southold. Bob Farrell will speak about hero and constellation Perseus and telescopes will be open to view the night sky before the meteor shower. Gather to watch the meteor shower on the south lawn. Bring lawn chairs, blanket, bug spray and snacks. Suggested donation: $5 adults; $3 children under 12. 631-765-2626, custerobservatory.org.

The cosmos will be putting on quite a show tonight, and there are plenty of seats in the house.

The Perseid Meteor Shower is a prolific meteor shower visible each year around mid-August, with peak activity this year occurring between Aug. 11 and 14. The most action will take place around midnight Wednesday, Aug. 12, and into Thursday morning. (more…)

The cosmos will be putting on quite a show in the night skies this weekend, and there are plenty of seats in the house.

The Perseid Meteor Shower is a prolific meteor shower that is visible around mid-July each year, with the peak activity this year between August 9 and 14. Sunday night after midnight into Monday morning will provide the most action. (more…)
