Celebrated local violinist Itzhak Perlman doesn’t need anything better than a Stradivarius because no better instrument exists.
That’s what Perlman, who coaches young players at Shelter Island’s Perlman Music Program and is married to the school’s co-founder, Toby, said in a December “60 Minutes” segment about Stradivarius violins, which are believed to produce the finest sound in the world. (more…)

The Perlman Music Program will set up camp on Shelter Island over Columbus Day weekend with two concerts. The first, on Saturday, October 12 at 7:30 p.m. will feature cellist Michael Katz and pianist Qing Jiang, both alumni of the Chamber Music Workshop. They will be performing the works of Beethoven, Cassado, Prokofiev and Radzynski. (more…)
