The songs of North Fork singer/songwriter Julia King tell tales of both brief dalliances and long-lasting romance.

From the empty bottles of the evening to the strong cups of coffee the next day, the Greenport resident’s anthems are full of universal truths. At 28, she’s had her share of heartbreak, and has given herself permission to feel all the emotions that come along with it.

“The most important thing is to stop judging yourself for your desires or what you’ve done in the past,” King said. “Songwriting is like touching the hearts of other people. Through my suffering I can understand yours.”

And coffee may be the nectar for the local singer songwriter’s new folk rock album “The Morning After,” which was released in January. But wine is a close second. (more…)
