Level: Any!
Goal: Connect creativity with nature.

All programs within this camp utilize the four art learning standards with multi-disciplinary connections.

Monday– Nature watercolors: We’ll explore the colors of nature through the different seasons using the fluid medium of watercolors. Learn brush techniques to capture your impression of the natural world around you. Understand the chemistry of color mixing and blending to bring life to any watercolor creation.

Tuesday– Zoomorphic clay pinch-pots: This program is a perfect blend of culture, art, wildlife and music. Each student will learn about basic ceramic techniques while creating a personalized clay pinch pot into the form of their favorite animals. Pinch pots were one of the most basic forms of Native ceramics decorated with symbols and designs to share stories. Participants will first be taught about Native American culture with samples of artworks and flute music!

Wednesday– Driftwood/ shell art using items collected from the North Fork: Participants will use north fork driftwood, beads, feathers and pigment to decorate their personalized creation. We’ll also shellebrate our local water cleansing shellfish with this creative project. Students will learn about bivalves and other marine invertebrates while decorating a native seashell.

Thursday– Recycled bottle glow bugs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle with this fun upcycled art program. Students will learn how to transform a plastic bottle into an artwork celebrating our pollinating insect friends. Turn trash into treasure while using pipe cleaners, paper plates and glow sticks!

Friday– Animal mask making: Masks have been created and worn for ages by many cultures around the world and for many purposes. From African ceremonies to modern day superheroes, masks have transformed the human experience. Students will create their own paper mask that have that special connection to their favorite creature.
