About

[Shelter Island, NY ]

A mere 90 miles from Manhattan lies a cultural enclave rich in both literary and
artistic history – this creative hub is Shelter Island, the 27 mile stretch of
land that is a cultural gem in its own right. Home to many widely historically recognized
artisans and creatives, there is a strong sense of treasured community. This
vibrant hamlet preserves tradition in an ever-changing world, and in that
spirit will be host in August to ARTSI – the perennial open studios tours comprised
of local artists that is now celebrating its fourteenth consecutive
year.

Proving again that there are exciting and refreshing alternatives
to the traditional white wall gallery and systems, ARTSI will present twenty
artists who will open their doors and comprise the open studio tour. Founded in
2010. ARTSI began as a break-away group from the much larger and
well-established Artists Alliance of East Hampton (AAEH) and that spirit
remains amongst the group. As a novel and individual concept, it was an
immediate hit with art goers. This year the group proudly dedicates the weekend
event in memoriam for members Janet Culbertson & Mike Zisser who passed
away in 2023.

Many of the ARTSI multi-disciplined artist members showcase their
work at fine art galleries in Manhattan/ throughout other major cities and will
be presenting all new pieces, in varying mediums, for highly rare and intimate viewings.
Featured artists: Connie Abate, Sally Jacobs Baker, Tia Bowman, Linda
