Anastasia Damalas’ makeup studio, North Fork Face, is more than just a place to get done up — it’s a cozy space packed with compassion, community and conversation.
“I want to make you see what I can see in you,” says Damalas. The self-taught makeup artist opened doors to the Greenport location in April.
Damalas’ journey started with watching YouTube makeup tutorials. “I struggled with confidence and weight issues and things like that,” she says. “Makeup for me became a really big passion and something that helped me feel comfortable, in my darkest time, going outside.”
In 2019, thanks to her natural talent, her friends started asking her to do their makeup for their weddings.
Soon after Damalas turned her casual craft into glamming others, Covid deterred people from getting up close and personal.
She knew it was time to break out the brushes again when she saw the Front Street studio become available.
In the time between doing friends’ makeup and opening a space of her own, Damalas took a course certifying her to do bridal makeup.
“I love working with brides because it’s another special type of magic and love that you get to be around,” says Damalas.
But that is not her only focus, she says.
At North Fork Face, Damalas offers event makeup and bring-your-own-beverage packages for groups getting ready, where she does makeup while individuals are welcome to do their hair and hang out.
“If girls want to bring their friends or their mom and have a little girl time, I’m very into that,” she says.
The studio features a main makeup chair plus two others, perfect for a small squad.
Another service Damalas is offering is help with makeup routines.
To help develop personalized processes, Damalas holds three sessions with clients. In the first she does a consultation. “I want to hear what you currently do and what you’re hoping to achieve,” she says.
In the second, she shops with you to pick out shades from Ulta or Sephora; and in the third, she practices the new plan with you at the studio.
“I love being there and connecting with people and making them feel good,” says Damalas. “That’s a simple formula for me.”
